I must confess, I struggled to write this article because I just simply wanted to write about something else, but I could not ignore the burden in my heart to write about the “narrow road” that we believers must travel if were are to live a life pleasing unto God. Therefore, it is imperative that I obey the leading of the Holy Spirit, and begin to write. So, let’s get to it. The narrow road Jesus is talking about in (Matthew 7:13-14) is a road that we usually leave out when we are teaching new believers . I must regrettably admit that we have made God and His Kingdom seems as if God’s only goal is to bless his people. Yes, God is our provider (Jehovah Jireh – Genesis 22:14), and Yes, He pours out blessings over his children, but this is not the total sum of who God is, or what He desire to do in the lives of His children. God our heavenly Father has an eternal plan for each of us, and this plan consist of leading us down the path less traveled. Many of us often tend to appeal to man’s flesh, pleasures, biases and desires for self serving purposes. However the unpopular truth of the matter is this: if we are to reign with Him we must also suffer with Him. (2 Timothy 2:12). Nothing more, and nothing less. We must tell the whole, and complete Truth.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NLT)
13) “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14) But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.”
Years ago, when I first met up with these two verses I assumed that I knew exactly what Jesus was telling me, but my understanding was limited at best. I thought that Jesus was explaining to me that there is no room on this road for my excess baggage such as past hurts and wounds, and He wanted to heal me. I found out that this was not even the tip of the iceberg.
Then it was revealed
I MUST DIE! No! Nobody ever told me that I would have to DIE!! I was never told that this narrow road would lead to the cross where I would be crucified with my Lord and Savior (Matthew 16:24), What? Nobody told me that after death I would be born again, and in this new life I was going to be hidden in Christ? (Colossians 3:3) WHAT? What does that even mean? My flesh screamed I want to live!!!!!!
I made a conscious decision to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit, as He lead me to the Cross of Jesus where I willfully died breaking the power of death, the power of sin, the penalty of sins, and the power of the world system. This death lead me to a FREEDOM I’ve never known or experienced.
My Resurrection ( I am born again)
I am now Alive in God through Christ Jesus (Romans 6:11). I am now FREE to LIVE – I am no longer bound. … I am free from going to Hell (Hallelujah), my heart has been detached from this Satan influenced world, I am free to be Holy (Leviticus 20:26), I am free to repent, to forgive, to love, and I am also free to suffer… Yep, you heard me correctly. I am free to suffer with my Messiah, I am free to be set apart for the master’s use (2 Timothy 2:21), I am free to be transformed into the image of Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18), my mind is free to think like Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16), and last but not least I am free to trust God in areas where I would never have trusted Him if I didn’t have this (His) new life.
I now understand how death do not begin when we leave the earth realm, our dying process begins when we confess Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. We must die so that we may live.
The way of the narrow road is unpopular to most, but I beseech you to take your Heavenly Father’s hand by the power of the Holy Spirit, and choose this way, it is worth it. We as believer must share the whole Gospel of Jesus Christ, and not only the parts that itches the ears of our hearers (2 Timothy 4:4). We will be held accountable!
Thank you for reading my post. I hope you have read something that might help you in your walk with our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ (Yeshua, Messiah).
