What is “TRUTH?”

The Truth… What is Truth? and is There a such thing as an Absolute Truth?

What is truth? Better yet.. How do you define truth? The definition of truth may differ from person to person depending on who you ask and depending on their individual circumstances. I have had conversations in the past where I observed how uncomfortable most people get when they are challenged in the realm of truth. Even though this topic has been stirring in my spirit now for a few weeks I have been slow in writing primarily because of a selfish desire to avoid becoming vulnerable with you. and secondly; Not wanting to open any doors for backlash from the enemy of Truth (Satan). Nevertheless, I cannot ignore this burning in my heart. It is my hope that this article will challenge you and disturb your thought process regarding truth.

Disclaimer: Unbelievers – This Article may not be for you.

Allow me to first start by saying there is nothing more embarrassing then being convicted of sin by the Holy Spirit. You might be wondering, what sin am I speaking of? You see, I am one of those Christians who had prided myself in reaching a level of spiritual maturity where I no longer had any issues with lying. I would even have a judgmental attitude towards those who had obvious problems with speaking the truth. If you were to ask me a couple of weeks ago if I always told the truth, my answer would have been a resounding YES! (and I probably would have been offended by the question). However, what I failed to understand is that there are several elements to lies, and how God sees all forms of lying as sin (Revelation 21:8). What does this mean exactly? This means that God views half truths, omissions (details left out), Embellishes, Exaggerations, misspoken words, misleading words as lying! Therefore, I was in sin!!! As God disciplined me (Hebrews 12:6) He gently reminded me of these following verses.

Proverbs 6:16-19 Amplified Bible (AMP)

16 These six things the Lord hates; Indeed, seven are repulsive to Him:
17 A proud look [the attitude that makes one overestimate oneself and discount others], a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that creates wicked plans, Feet that run swiftly to evil,
19 A false witness who breathes out lies [even half-truths], And one who spreads discord (rumors) among brothers.

I then humbled my heart as I repented.

Here is a little nugget… Fear is the enemy of truth! Yep, that’s right!! Have you ever omitted the truth for fear of offending someone? Or Have you ever been in a confrontational situation with someone such as your supervisor, husband, wife, mother, father, or sibling, and became fearful of the possible consequences, and you lied? Yep… That was sin!!! ALERT: Without Faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). It is imperative for us to speak the truth, and trust God to work on our behalf in dealing with all consequences that comes with it.

I understand fear as much as anyone, and I confess that I have bowed down to fear on many occasions. I am truly grateful for God’s Mercy, and God’s Grace in which they are made new for me every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).  While the Holy Spirit was checking (correcting) me, I was quickly reminded that I should not be afraid of man, who could only kill my body, but I should instead only fear Him who have the power to destroy both my body and my soul (Matthew 10:28).

Okay, How about this one… Have you ever exaggerated to make a story that you were telling more interesting? and stretched the heck out of the truth by adding details that just was not there, or even yet, you left the small unimportant details out? Yep, you guessed it… God view this as lying! Yep… sin! (Matthew 5:37) I have been guilty of this countless of times.

What About White Lies?

when I hear the term “White Lie” I get irritated. This is the terminology I would use when I wanted to justify a lie. Now, wait a minute, I can hear you say – white lies don’t count. They are small in stature and they don’t really hurt anyone; therefore, I am good!  Are you really? God the Creator of Heaven and earth, and Judge of all says otherwise. Therefore, you are not good. There was a time when I walked in deception when the god of this world – Satan (II Corinthians 4:4) “Lied” to me and manipulated me into believing that white lies are acceptable to God. DO NOT Be Deceived (I Corinthians 6:9)! It is a set-up!!!

What Is the Truth About Truth?

There was a time in a not so distant past when I thought that the truth was relevant to my individual preferences, ideas, or opinions. I believed that I could judge truth according to my past and present experiences, and it was only when I came face to face with the Spirit of Truth (John 15:26) and received His light that I saw how wrong I truly was. I now understand that Truth can not originate from my human nature, but instead Truth must originate from God’s nature. We must all receive light from the Holy Spirit in order to see Truth!  I do admit I was once guilty of trying to walk in the Truth of God under my own power and strength causing me to become helplessly frustrated at times. I then heard the Spirit of God speak, and He said to me “daughter, I must empower you to walk in my Truth. You cannot and will not operate in Truth apart from me” (John 15:5).

You see, the Truth is not actually a what, but a who! The Truth is Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus, The Christ) (John 14:6) – Jesus, said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except (through) Me). We must ALWAYS remember that Satan is the Father of Lies (John 8:44), and he will pervert the truth causing confusion at every opportunity (I Corinthians 14:33).

That is correct… Satan is the Father of (ALL) Lies. Therefore, when we lie (no matter how small) we are glorifying the devil and increasing his kingdom, but when we speak the Truth we are glorifying God our heavenly Father and increasing His Kingdom.

Which God are you glorifying? and which Kingdom are you increasing?

Note: It is wise for us to acknowledge that a half-truth is a whole lie, and we should NEVER change the Truth to fit our lifestyles, but instead we must always change our lifestyles to line up with Truth and let ours words be acceptable in the sight of our Lord (Psalm 19:14).

The written Truth?

Okay… Listen up!  Because whether you accept this Truth or not will either have a positive or negative affect on your faith, and your level of obedience.  However, If Holy Spirit has already revealed this Truth to you – Hallelujah; But, everybody else… Pay close attention!! Jesus IS the The Word of God (BIBLE), AND The Word of God ( BIBLE) Is Jesus!!! (John 1:1). Oops, I just dropped the mic. Allow me to be clear – It is not POSSIBLE to believe in Jesus and reject any parts the bible!

Is Truth Absolute?

YES! Jesus Christ (Truth) is [Always] the same, yesterday, today, [yes] and forever to the ages (Hebrews 13:8). The Truth cannot and will not change!  Beloved, I beseech you to avoid falling into one of the deadliest traps set by the evil one… This trap  is designed to rob believers of their faith in Jesus Christ (John 10:10).

In conclusion, even though it never feels good to get rebuked by the Holy Spirit, I am eternally grateful that He love me enough to not allow me to remain in sin. I now understand, the level of Truth God requires of me. I am pleased to reveal that I no longer walk in pride or a false sense of truth. I am now free to be led by the Holy Spirit as He lead me into all Truth (John 16:13)

Thank you for visiting my blog, and I pray that I have said something that will help you in your walk with our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ, The Son of the Living God.

Again, thank you!
Kisha
